DVS Press Release: DVS Equipment Enhances Digital Archive at KOFA

The Korean Film Archive KOFA has established a digital workflow for efficient archive and play-out of film material. A real-time DVS-SAN, the core of the new workflow, provides film data quickly and reliably for further processing. CLIPSTER® allows KOFA to create and deliver secure data packages to digital cinemas.

Hanover/Seoul. The Korean Film Archive (KOFA) uses a digital workflow to archive sensitive film data in an optimal way. Films are digitized, restored and then saved digitally. Adhering to DCI specifications, KOFA creates encrypted data packages, which can be transferred to cinemas worldwide. KOFA utilizes a DVS-SAN and a CLIPSTER® in vital positions at the heart of this workflow.

Serving to reflect and preserve both the historical and cultural values of Korea, KOFA is a public organization that archives film material. To enable a modern, space-saving and dependable archive, KOFA digitizes the archived film for restoration.

Material delivered on tape is read through the telecine and then directly stored on the DVS-SAN, the central storage solution that enables all of KOFA’s workstations to access the data in real time. Restoration and editing systems access the film data directly, optimizing KOFA’s workflow. The edited film material is then stored on the DVS-SAN. KOFA uses the advanced DI workstation CLIPSTER® for real-time versioning.
CLIPSTER® converts the content into the requested formats, guaranteeing KOFA efficient and secure management of material archival. Moreover, CLIPSTER® easily generates encrypted data packages for a cost-effective transfer of valuable film data to cinemas worldwide.
