Harris Corporation Showcases Innovations in HD Broadcast Graphics Portfolio, Enabling Streamlined Workflows, Increased Efficiency at 2009 NAB Show

LAS VEGAS, April 19, 2009 (NAB Show, Booth N2502) — At the 2009 NAB Show, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, showcases an enhanced HD/SD broadcast graphics systems portfolio, as well as management tools that enable broadcasters to streamline and optimize their graphics workflow.

Making its NAB debut is Inscriber® Connectus™, an optimized graphics management solution that allows customers to streamline and centrally manage their graphics workflow. Now shipping, Connectus seamlessly integrates into the entire line of Harris broadcast graphics applications, allowing media content to be easily managed and distributed across Harris networked systems. Media content can be published from any system on a local or wide area network, or across the Internet, giving operators complete control over where and how resources are stored and distributed. Once published to a centralized graphics server, media content can be manually retrieved or scheduled to be pushed automatically to specific locations throughout the network. Connectus is ideal for all graphic customers, from single stations managing graphics for a local news production, to entire networks managing graphics resources nationwide.

"Connectus enables broadcasters to save time and money by enabling designers and operators to focus on the creative process, without worrying about how the content will be distributed or managed," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "With Connectus, customers can design the workflow best suited for their environment with features including content management, an integrated approval system, user permission management, archiving and retrieval, system mapping, and centralized distribution. Whether a broadcaster is managing one channel or multiple channels at multiple sites, Connectus will greatly simplify the graphics workflow, from creation to management to playout."

Harris also will demonstrate the Inscriber G7™, an all-in-one graphics powerhouse that simplifies workflow while achieving high levels of graphics quality. Now shipping, the G7 is capable of producing up to two channels of real-time 3D high-definition graphics from a single 4RU system. Running the new G-Scribe™ 7.0 creation and playout software, the G7 enables integrated 2D and 3D DVE, MOS integration, hardware- and software-based clip playback and video capture. It also includes G-3D™, a full-featured, standalone 3D design application for creating or importing stunning 3D scenes.

The G7 also features a powerful new scripting engine based on Inscriber RTX NET™, bringing new power and flexibility to the broadcast graphics environment, including real-time 3D with dynamic texture mapping. RTX NET allows customers to generate custom workflows by building their own applications or tools to enhance any Harris graphics product. Custom applications can be created to handle large amounts of data, resulting in potential savings in production environments.

"Budgets are tight as we continue the transition into the world of HD, and broadcasters are demanding the highest-quality graphics and greater functionality, without increasing production costs," continued Thorsteinson. "On-air graphics are critical to helping tell the story in any production, and Harris broadcast graphics products enable customers to create a stunning on-air presence quickly and easily and manage their assets, with a minimal investment in resources."

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
