Harris Corporation Brings Advanced Media Workflows “To Life" At IBC2009 and Beyond
Harris Continues To Address Broadcasters’ Pressing Challenges on the IBC Show Floor and Support Customer Engagement in New Virtual World
WINNERSH, England, June 22, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will demonstrate its continued leadership in the challenging market climate at the upcoming IBC show taking place September 11–15, 2009, at the RAI Convention Centre in Amsterdam, Netherlands (Stand 7.G20). At IBC, Harris will provide access to a team of industry experts who will show how any broadcast operation can implement a cost-effective, revenue-generating advanced media workflow. In addition, Harris will launch its unique, new three-dimensional ”Harris Virtual World,” which will enable customers around the globe to engage with Harris experts in a truly virtual environment.
“A lot has changed in our market since last IBC, and broadcasters will be coming to this year’s show looking for much more than simply a first glimpse of the latest gadgets,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. “Broadcasters are seeking ways to operate more efficiently, lower expenses and increase revenue in a market where viewer attention is increasingly fragmented. To address customer concerns both at IBC and beyond, Harris is bringing a fresh, solutions-based approach to the show floor and launching unique initiatives such as the ‘Harris Virtual World’ experience.”
Global Customer Engagement in the “Harris Virtual World”
Following the success of its unique “NAB Online” initiative introduced during the 2009 NAB Show, Harris will build on this early innovation by launching “Harris Virtual World” at IBC. This unprecedented project will not only offer a virtual experience of the trade show, but will also offer an ongoing virtual experience of the entire Harris offering into 2010 and beyond. “Harris Virtual World” will provide customers around the globe with an efficient, cost-effective way to engage with Harris subject matter experts, receive real-time demonstrations and identify solutions to their real-world business challenges. More details about this initiative will be released during the run-up to IBC.
Solutions-Based Approach on the IBC Show Floor
Moving beyond the traditional tradeshow rollout of new point products, Harris will bring a fresh, educational approach to the IBC show floor, providing visitors with access to a team of experts on-hand to discuss and offer solutions to broadcasters’ most significant real-world business challenges and provide real-world tips for lowering operating expenses and profiting from their existing assets. Around the stand, some of the main topics Harris will address are as follows:
Advanced Media Workflows How can broadcasters compete in an industry speeding toward media convergence?
Harris will demonstrate how it uses tight software controls to bridge the gap between traditional broadcast and IT systems, enabling a powerful advanced media workflow that manages every stage of the content lifecycle. With a Harris-powered advanced media workflow, broadcasters can manage complex advertising campaigns and program traffic and scheduling across multiple delivery services, with playlists passed off to a content delivery system that handles the appropriate format and aspect ratio conversion with a minimization of operating expense. The result is a highly automated, file-based content management environment that allows broadcasters to realize new revenue streams in emerging business models such as digital multicasting, mobile DTV and ad-based digital signage networks.
HD Infrastructure Can I afford to implement 3 Gb/s-ready infrastructure?
At IBC, Harris will showcase technology that allows customers to cost-effectively transition their facilities to digital and prepare for future 1080p broadcast. Harris offers a unique portfolio of HD-ready infrastructure that can be easily and affordably upgraded to 3 Gb/s through a simple firmware upgrade whenever a broadcast operation is ready to make the move. As the transition to HD continues across the European market, Harris enables broadcasters of all sizes to upgrade their production studios, OB vans and broadcast facilities within a flexible investment framework.
Launchpad How do I create a streamlined 21st century master control for revenue-enhancing broadcast?
The Harris stand will feature the European debut of the groundbreaking “Launchpad” state-of-the-art master control environment, which uses the full breadth of the Harris portfolio’s interoperable capabilities to allow content preparation for playout to a multitude of distribution methods. During the show, Harris workflow experts will demonstrate how Launchpad enables broadcasters to efficiently manage the outputs of their rapidly increasing channels, reduce operating costs per channel, and improve output quality to increase overall advertising revenues and promote rich image branding and viewer loyalty.
Multiplatform Delivery How can broadcasters compete with nonlinear content providers to reach consumers on the go? As viewers continue to move beyond the traditional TV model in the ways they consume media, broadcasters around the world are exploring, planning and implementing new methods for expanding their services and creating new revenue streams. At IBC, Harris will demonstrate cost-effective, integrated technologies that support advanced media workflows for broadcasters seeking new revenue streams in both traditional and emerging delivery methods, including TV transmission, mobile TV, online content delivery and digital signage networks.
Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
