Participants news19 january 2009 Harris Corporation Providing Live High-Definition View of Inaugural Parade Route Beginning Noon Friday CINCINNATI, January 15, 2009 — Technology from Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will provide Internet and television viewers worldwide with a live high-definition (HD) view of the Presidential Inaugural Parade route beginning noon tomorrow (Friday, January 16). The technology is being provided by Harris in response to the unprecedented public and media interest in the event. Harris digital broadcast technology will provide a live rooftop camera feed from one of the best vantage points for the parade route in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. Beginning tomorrow and throughout the parade, the video feed will be made available to broadcasters by the National Press Club and showcased on the Harris website (www.harris.com) for the general public to view. Archive video of the parade will be available on the Harris and National Press Club websites (www.press.org) until January 30. The live HD camera is stationed on the roof of the JW Marriott Hotel at 14th Street, NW in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. The rooftop location offers a clear view down Pennsylvania Avenue and is about one block from the White House. Harris worked in conjunction with the National Press Club to design the system, manage the installation and provide technical services and support. After the live video is captured using a high-definition robotic camera, the content is stored on the Harris® NEXIO AMP™ advanced media platform. Two Harris X75™ all-in-one processors perform the necessary signal downconversion, and a Harris Videotek® TVM-950 signal analyzer verifies the quality of the signal. Finally, a Harris OPTO+™ fiber optic module transports the signal to a distribution partner who coordinates the upload of the signal for broadcast. “Harris is particularly well-positioned to meet the demands of such a high-profile project, with its wealth of tested and trusted broadcast technology equipment, engineering expertise and the technical resources necessary to get to air quickly and seamlessly,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. “The Harris Technical Solutions team mobilized immediately to ensure that the inaugural parade route feed would be available for nationwide broadcast to eager viewers as soon as possible.” Harris has been a broadcast technology pioneer and led the development, and helped to set the standards, for digital and high-definition television and radio. Last week, Harris announced the availability of a full technology platform to support the rollout of mobile DTV, the next big technology breakthrough in the broadcast industry. The National Press Club Broadcast Operations Center is providing technical services and the broadcast feed. The National Press Club was founded in 1908 and is the World’s Leading Professional Organization for Journalists. From its Broadcast Operations Center on the 4th Floor of the National Press Building, the Club is connected to broadcasters worldwide via full-time fiber feeds and satellite communications. * Broadcasters interested in receiving the live video feed of the Inaugural Parade Route should contact Tiina Kreek at 202-662-7500 or boc@press.org.
