Harris Corporation NEXIO AMP™ Advanced Media Platform Supports Playout Facility Expansion at Al-Jazeera Children’s Channel

WINNERSH, England, January 21, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces that its NEXIO AMP™ advanced media platform has been installed at Al-Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC) to support the deployment of three new youth and family-oriented channels.  Al-Jazeera Children’s Channel is a Doha, Qatar-based, all-Arabic language television outlet marketed at youth.

The installation includes four NEXIO AMP™ servers that are integrated into an existing NEXIO™ storage area network (SAN).  The NEXIO AMP servers are used for playout of the new channels, while the existing NEXIO SAN, which was expanded in both storage and port capacity, is used for ingest and content backup.

“The ability to copy content as files at high speed among the NEXIO SAN, third-party editors and digital archive is an important aspect of the workflow of Al-Jazeera,” said Samir Mekhazni, head of technical support at Al-Jazeera Children’s Channel.  “One of the key advantages of this expanded solution is that we can take advantage of the HD capabilities, while having our content readily available at all times.”

Local systems integrator Salam Media Cast was contracted to handle the complete setup of the channels.

“We are pleased that our server technology was again selected by Al-Jazeera in developing their broadcast infrastructure,” said Richard Scott, vice president, Europe, the Middle East and Africa operations for Harris Broadcast Communications.  “Our NEXIO AMP advanced media platform is achieving great momentum in the Middle East this year, and this installation is another example of how Harris can assist broadcasters in simplifying their workflow.”

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain.  The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
