Participants news13 february 2009 Harris Corporation Showcases HD Radio Technology at NAB2009 Transmission and Multicasting Support on Display Through a Variety of Evolving Platforms and Products CINCINNATI, February 11, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will exhibit a full suite of HD Radio™ transmission products for radio broadcasters at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters show taking place April 20-23 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (North Hall, Booth N2502). With an emphasis on efficient new transmitters and the company's evolving FlexStar® family of HD Radio products, Harris will demonstrate its focus on delivering complete transmission and multicasting solutions for radio broadcasters at all power levels. "The HD Radio rollout continues to push ahead, as consumer electronics manufacturers bring more receivers to market," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "At last count, more than 90 digital receivers are now available, and 13 automakers either offer or have announced plans to offer HD Radio receivers in their vehicles. Harris continues to evolve its HD Radio product portfolio so that radio broadcasters everywhere — including university and independent stations — can be on the air with one or more HD Radio program streams and reach the consumers who are adopting this technology." NAB2009 marks the first time that Harris will bring two HD Radio-ready transmitters to the show: the HPX™ Series, an ultra-compact range of high-power HD Radio tube transmitters; and the ZX5000 transmitter, the newest model in the company's popular range of ZX® radio broadcast transmitters. Now shipping, both transmitters are also available in analog FM-only or common-amplification versions (HD Radio+analog) that allow broadcasters to launch HD Radio program streams when ready. Both transmitters are also deliverable with Harris® FlexStar technology to enable immediate HD Radio multicasting in HD-only or common-amplification modes. The complete FlexStar platform includes the now-shipping HDE-200 embedded exporter — the first Harris exporter to embed software under the hood, thereby eliminating hardware costs and performance liabilities; as well as the HDE-100 importer and HDX exciter. The complete FlexStar platform supports delivery of multiple HD Radio program streams and data over a single, dedicated IP connection — ideal for any HD Radio multicasting configuration. Harris HPX Series transmitters, ZX5000 transmitters and FlexStar HD Radio products offer outstanding value to radio broadcasters. The HPX transmitter utilizes matching amplifier and power supply cabinets to minimize the footprint at the transmission facility, and the modular design of the ZX5000 offers an unprecedented compact size for a 5 kW transmitter that is deliverable with an exciter and signal processing gear. Both transmitters utilize the same internal components for HD-only — both common-amplification and analog FM systems — and offer front-panel accessibility to simplify maintenance and spare parts inventory. The HDE-200 embedded exporter, with its minimal footprint and maintenance requirements, reduces the cost of HD Radio implementation between 10 and 20 percent per station. Standard features include remote and front-panel metering and monitoring and an internal GPS module, with options for profanity delay, diversity delay and an Arbitron People Meter to help reduce the cost of equipment upstream. Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
