Participants news13 february 2009 Harris Corporation to Introduce 3 Gb/s Distribution Amplifiers with Fiber I/O for 6800+ Core Processing Platform at NAB2009 Includes Industry's Widest Range of 3 Gb/s DAs with Fiber and Coaxial Distribution CINCINNATI, February 11, 2009 — At NAB2009, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will introduce new 3 Gb/s/HD/SD/ASI fiber distribution amplifiers (DAs) in several configurations for its industry-leading 6800+™ modular core processing platform at NAB2009. The new line of DAs enables both fiber and coaxial distribution, as well as built-in automatic changeover upon primary signal failover. Harris 3 Gb/s-capable fiber DAs provide broadcasters with a unique combination of configurations, including single-channel transceiver, dual-channel fiber transmitter, dual-channel fiber receiver, and dual-channel fiber receiver with dual fiber transmitters per channel. All of these DAs offer the balance of inputs and outputs in standard coax. Key features include support for 3 Gb/s/HD/SD/ASI, reclocking, low-power consumption, ASI compatibility on all outputs, and broadcast-quality performance that exceeds SMPTE specifications. The DAs use SFP (small form-factor pluggable) interchangeable fiber cartridges, which allow the user to swap cartridges to change wavelengths or expand into optical at a later date. The DAs are ideal for distribution applications requiring a mixture of medium-haul and medium/long-haul signal paths, such as within a multifloor facility or across metro-type distances. "All of the new Harris 3 Gb/s fiber DA modules reside in the high-density, cost-effective 2RU 6800+ frame, and enable broadcasters to reap the benefits of the broadcast-quality performance inherent in the 6800+ series platform," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. "Broadcasters can now choose from a full complement of true DAs with fiber I/O, and gain the benefit of optical input/output for 3 Gb/s/HD/SD/ASI distribution today, or easily expand into optical distribution when ready." The Harris 3 Gb/s/HD/SD/ASI fiber DA line includes the following: DA-HRO6803+D — single-channel 1x8 DA with optical to electrical (O-to-E) or electrical to optical (E-to-O) conversion; one fiber or coaxial input with one fiber and seven coaxial outputs; can be ordered as a fiber-ready DA without the SFP (for later expansion into fiber distribution). DA-DHREO6803+D — dual-channel 1x4 DA with E-to-O conversion; two coaxial inputs with one fiber and three coaxial outputs; can also be user-configured to operate as a single-channel 1x8 DA using one coaxial input with two fiber and six coaxial outputs and a backup coaxial input. This DA has built-in automatic changeover. It is also available as a fiber-ready DA without the SFP (for later expansion into fiber distribution). DA-DHROE6803+D — dual-channel 1x4 DA with O-to-E conversion; two fiber inputs with four coaxial outputs per channel; can also be configured to operate as a single-channel 1x8 DA with O-to-E conversion and a backup coaxial input. This DA has built-in automatic changeover. DA-DHROOE6803+D — dual-channel 1x4 DA with O-to-E conversion; two fiber outputs and two coaxial outputs per channel; can also be configured to operate as a single-channel 1x8 DA with O-to-E conversion, four fiber and four coaxial outputs and a backup coaxial input. This DA has built-in automatic changeover. "Harris already offers one of the broadest portfolios of distribution amplifiers in the industry, but we've now upped the ante with this incredibly useful technology," said Thorsteinson. "The new 3 Gb/s fiber DA line also integrates well with the Harris Broadcast ONE™ initiative, which provides broadcasters with integrated technology solutions that improve their workflows, by enabling fiber connectivity to the wide range of other Harris fiber-ready gear across distances not possible with coax cable." The new line of Harris 3 Gb/s fiber DAs will be available in late-March 2009. Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire media delivery chain. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
