Harris Corporation Wins Five Broadcast Technology Awards for New TV and Radio Transmission Solutions at 2009 NAB Show

CINCINNATI, May 6, 2009 — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, was honored with five prestigious industry awards for its latest television and radio broadcast transmission solutions at the 2009 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention held April 18-23 in Las Vegas.

Honored products include the Maxiva™ line of UHF TV transmitters, which won Broadcast Engineering magazine's Pick Hit award and TV Technology magazine's STAR award (Superior Technology Award Recipient); the Intraplex® HD Link™ STL (studio-to-transmitter link) transport solution, which won Radio World newspaper’s “Cool Stuff” award and Radio magazine’s Pick Hit award; and the HPX™ Series of high-power HD Radio™ tube transmitters, which also won a Radio magazine Pick Hit award.

“As a digital transmission leader, Harris has developed a comprehensive range of efficient multimedia transmission solutions that maximize digital performance and has leveraged its expertise to deliver solutions for major digital transmission network rollouts around the world,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications.  “These award wins underscore our leadership role in the market, as we continue to offer the latest technology, while delivering significant savings in overall cost of ownership and providing a solid ROI for the broadcaster."

Encompassing a complete range of multimedia transmitters for UHF broadcasters at virtually every power level, the Maxiva line includes the Maxiva ULX Series, a range of liquid-cooled transmitters for high-power UHF multimedia broadcasters; and the Maxiva UAX Series of air-cooled, solid-state transmitters for low-power UHF transmission.  Intraplex HD Link is the first major Intraplex product introduction for 950 MHz STL applications that addresses both HD Radio and analog AM/FM broadcasters, bringing more strength and diversity to the Harris Intraplex brand.  The HPX series is the next generation in high-power tube transmission for FM analog and HD Radio broadcasting, offering superior power and efficiency at a very attractive price point.

The Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Awards are the industry's longest-running new product technology awards.  An anonymous panel of Broadcast Engineering readers who are working professionals in the broadcast, post and network and satellite industries selected the winners.  The TV Technology STAR Awards are designed to celebrate and showcase the pre-eminent technological innovations available to the broadcast industry.  A panel of judges consisting of TV Technology editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award nominees.

The Radio World “Cool Stuff” award-winning products were selected by a panel of expert radio broadcast engineers as notable for their design, features, cost efficiency and performance in serving radio broadcast users. TheRadio magazine Pick Hit Awards are selected by a panel of judges who are radio broadcast engineers from radio stations, radio networks and radio production facilities.  The Pick Hits panel selects the top 15 new products introduced at the convention.
